Ford Edge - A Mid-Sized SUV That Has Earned its Growing Popularity
The Ford Edge is one of Ford's best-selling SUV's in the crowded mid-sized crossover category, driving proudly with its great list of features, impressive performance, and the optional EcoBoost turbo-charged 4 cylinder engine.
One of the great things about the Ford Edge is its substantial feel, as if Ford took an Escape, fed it protein shakes and made it start working out. Even with the extra bulk, the Edge still performs admirably; and quite a bit more than admirably if you're driving the V6-version Edge Sport. Add to all of this a nicely designed cabin, the very high-tech MyFord Touch control system and a surprisingly responsive suspension, and you have a car that appeals to a wide range of drivers.
Edge Trim Levels
The Ford Edge comes in four trim levels; SE, SEL, Limited and Sport versions. The base SE model has all of the features you'd expect from a mid-sized SUV in this price range:
- 17-inch alloys
- cruise control
- tilt and telescoping steering wheel
- reclining rear seats
- tinted windows and blind-spot mirrors
- much more as options
- dual-zone automatic climate control
- leather upholstery
- heated front seats
- eight-way power driver's seat
- loads of options
- adaptive cruise control
- keyless and remote entry and ignition
- passenger side power seats with power lumbar support
- 12-speaker Sony audio system
- sport-tuned suspension
- extremely powerful V6 engine
- very handsome exterior styling features
- all riding on huge 22-inch wheels!
Powertrain and the Edge
The standard engine on all but the Edge Sport is a 3.5-liter V6 that puts out meaty 285-hp. Ford's EcoBoost, an optional 2.0-liter turbo-charged 4 cylinder engine produces almost as much horsepower but with a bit more torque, making it perform nearly as well and improving the fuel economy by 3 to 5 mpg. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard for both and an all-wheel drive option is available. The Edge Sport, in keeping with its image of performance, packs in a different power-plant. A 3.7-liter V6 that puts out a whopping 305-hp and 280 ft-lb of torque is what propels this rocket down the road. And when combined with the tuned suspension and six-speed paddle shifter, Edge Sport is a simply a blast to drive.
With it's growing list of goodies, superb driving performance, and refinement under the hood, the Ford Edge will continue to edge out its competitors in the mid-size crossover market.
