The New Nissan Versa Sedan - High Value, High MPG, Low Cost of Ownership

Current Versa Models

The Nissan Versa is available as a sedan or a hatchback. The sedan is all-new for 2015 and has been fully redesigned, however, the Versa hatchback is a carry over from the 2011 model year with only minor changes to standard equipment. The Versa sedan is available in S, SV and SL trim levels. The S model comes with the normal base equipment such as a manual transmission, A/C and a stereo system with AM/FM radio, a CD player and an auxiliary port for your iPod. All sedans have a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. The hatchback is available in the S & SL trim level.

What's New with the Versa?

Al Castignetti, vice president and general manager of the Nissan Division, Nissan North America, Inc. said, "This new Versa Sedan, is a 'clean sheet' ground-up design and takes small cars in a whole new direction, proving that you don't have to sacrifice style for affordability, interior roominess for a smaller footprint, or drivability for high mpg." The 2015 Versa Sedan's all-new front wheel drive, called the "global V platform" ("V" for Versatile), utilizes nearly 20 percent fewer platform components and weighs around 150 pounds less than the previous model. And the best part is, the 2015 Nissan Versa sedan has an MSRP of only $10,990. This makes the subcompact car the least expensive car in America! That's less than most motorcycles!

Outside the Versa

To achieve the new Versa Sedan's "more expensive" look, Nissan gave the exterior shape a strong sense of volume. In front, Versa Sedan features Nissan's new signature sedan grille design and jewel-like headlights. The shape of the trunk lid helps give it excellent aerodynamics, including a low coefficient of drag of just 0.31. The indented line down the middle of the roofline is not just a new design feature, but a functional innovation that helps reduce roof panel vibration in order to create a quieter interior. Other exterior features include:

  • fixed roof antenna
  • body-color front and rear fascias
  • available chrome-accented grille
  • chrome door handles
  • integrated front fog lights

Inside the Versa

Everyone who has test driven the Versa Sedan agrees, it's small on the outside, yet big on the inside! When you get in, the interior space is excellent with surprising roominess for driver and passenger. In fact, the Sedan has 90 cubic feet of total passenger room which Nissan claims is the most rear leg room available in its class. The instrument gauges on the Versa look great as well. They're sharp, crisp and easy to read.

Versa's Fuel Economy at a Low Price

With an estimated 30 mpg city and 38 mpg highway or a combined 33 mpg rating, the Versa is not the best, but it's near the top in fuel economy ratings among competitors for a whole lot less money!

Nissan - A Brief History

The Tokyo-based Jidosha-Seizo Kabushiki-Kaisha, (or Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd." in English) was established on December 26, 1933, taking over all the operations for manufacturing Datsuns from the automobile division of Tobata Casting Co., Ltd. Its company name was changed to Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. on June 1, 1934. The company began to experience phenomenal growth during the 60's after it won the Deming Prize for engineering excellence. The energy crises of the 70's fueled the rise in exports of fuel efficient, affordable Japanese cars. Success in the United States and other markets allowed Nissan to expand all over the world. Today, Nissan has manufacturing and assembly plants in 17 countries.
